Congress To Challenge SC Verdict Acquitting 6 Convicts In Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case

During the hearing, the Supreme Court was told that the conduct of all the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case was found to be good in jail. Apart from this, all of them also obtained several degrees during their stay in jail. The Supreme Court had ordered the release of S Nalini, Jayakumar, RP Ravichandran, Robert Piyas, Suthendraraja and Sriharan on this basis. The Supreme Court, exercising its power under Article 142 of the Constitution, had ordered the release of Perarivalan on 18 May 2022. Perarivalan 18 had served a sentence of more than a year in the case of the murder of the former PM. Other convicts also remained in jail for years. All were sentenced to death. However, it was later commuted to life imprisonment.
