Morbi Bridge Collapse: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high level meeting on Monday night on the accident in Morbi, Gujarat. At the same time, officials said that in a meeting held at Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given detailed information about the relief and rescue operations at the site. An official release said that PM Modi chaired a high level meeting to review the status of Morbi incident at Raj Bhavan, Gandhinagar. The release said the Prime Minister was apprised of the relief and rescue operations initiated at the site and all aspects related to the incident were discussed. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, Chief Secretary Pankaj Kumar and Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Bhatia and other top officials attended the meeting.

Rajkot Range Inspector General of Police Ashok Kumar Yadav said that the police will take the help of forensic experts and structural engineer to investigate all aspects related to the incident. He said that preliminary investigation revealed that technical and structural flaws were responsible for the tragedy. These include certification as well as maintenance drawbacks. The CCTV footage of the incident shows that people standing on the narrow bridge fell into the river due to the sudden break of one of the two main cables.
