New Delhi : A public interest litigation in the Supreme Court on Friday regarding the increasing pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). has been filed. In this petition, a demand has been made to issue new guidelines on stubble burning to stop the increasing air pollution. On the petition of advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha, the Supreme Court on the upcoming November will hear. A bench of Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi took cognizance of the plea of advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha.
AQI of Delhi-NCR increased
Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha in his personal capacity filed a PIL stating that the situation of air pollution has worsened due to stubble burning in the adjoining areas of Delhi . The petition states that the matter is of grave concern which requires immediate intervention of the court. The petition has sought setting up of a high-level committee, headed by a retired Supreme Court judge, to deal with the air pollution crisis caused by stubble burning. It said to issue an order or guidelines to each state to take necessary measures to reduce pollution, including installation of smog-towers, tree plantation drives, affordable public transport, etc. The petition also sought a direction to the Chief Secretaries of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to personally take responsibility for stubble burning anywhere.
